A 12V battery pack is often provided from a car battery or from a rechargeable 'alarm' style battery.
A 12V Battery Pack must never be connected directly to a PICAXE which is rated only for 5V operation. Doing so will damage and likely destroy the PICAXE.
The 12V supply should be taken through a voltage regulator and then to the PICAXE and rest of the circuit.

Do not use a 12V battery pack directly with the create system.
Use a 4.5V battery pack (3 x AA/LR6 cells) instead.
